Printed caption on verso reads: "From cannibalism to civilisation / The Arab slavetraders, with 30,000 followers armed with guns, were met in several fierce battles and finally crushed by the Belgian Congo States small army of about 2,000 native soldiers commanded by Belgian officers. Several thousand slavers and soldiers were killed in action and also many Belgians."
