Scope and Contents
The photograph depicts women "before a wall painting on a white-washed house near El Minya (now Al Minyā), 150 miles south of Cairo. This elaborate depiction of the owner's pilgrimage to Mecca even shows the steamboat on which he traveled." [Eliot Elisofon, Laurens Van Der Post, 1964: The Nile, The Viking press]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was working on "The Nile" project and traveled to Africa from March 14, 1961 to March 31, 1961, visiting Egypt.
