Scope and Contents
Original title reads, "Owen Falls dam, separating Lake Victoria from the Victoria Nile. Water gushing out of dam is from a sluice gate for overflow water not needed in generating electricity. The power plant was officially opened April 29, 1954, by Queen Elisabeth II, and supllies power to portions of Uganda and Kenya. It is operated by the Uganda Electricity Board." This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from August 18, 1959 to December 20, 1959.
