Scope and Contents
The photograph depicts the southern extremity of Zamālik, Jazīrat az Island with 590-foot-high Cairo Tower. The edifice was built in 1957 and is surmounted by a revolving restaurant and a radio and television mast. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for American Institute of Architects, directing the Egyptian portion of the documentary on Ancient Egypt, March 1965 and September 1965.
