Scope and Contents
Original title reads, "Workers on the railroad line from Mombasa to Nairobi and Kampala tamp ballast, driving it under the metal ties with their picks and hammers. Man in red shirt withhout tools is foreman. This is not actually the main line of the Mombasa-Nairobi railroad, but a spur serving oil tanker docks." [Elisofon field notes, August 1959-December 1959]
This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from August 18, 1959 to December 20, 1959.
