Scope and Contents

The photograph depicts ornate bracelet and gold finger-ring worn on the right wrist of Asante regional Chief Kwaku Addai. "The fingers of great chiefs are laden with gold rings of every kind, while their forearms are covered with beads and bracelets. Like much Akan royal art, many finger-rings were designed to convey a moral message to the beholder." [Timothy F. Garrard, 1989: Gold of Africa, Prestel]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon traveled to Africa from March 17, 1970 to July 17, 1970.
