Scope and Contents
Original title reads, "Freighters head downstream, water spraying around their crew, which is partly out of the water because ships can only draw 12 feet due to the Escravos bar they must cross before reaching the Bight of Benin, which gives on the Gulf of Guinea." [Elisofon field notes, August 1959-December 1959]
This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from August 18, 1959 to December 20, 1959.
