Scope and Contents

Original title reads, "The Shell-BP Trade School was opened in December 1958. The students will spend the first year at the school full time, then the next two years will work at Shell-BP shops, returning to the school one week each month to study theory as their skills develop. Against the far wall are three lathes; in right foreground is a small lathe; in left foreground is a shaper. Instructor at desk is Jack Wallis." [Elisofon field notes, August 1959-December 1959]
This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from August 18, 1959 to December 20, 1959.
