Scope and Contents
Original title reads, "Port Harcourt handles imports and exports of the Eastern region and part of the Northern region and a good deal of overseas transit traffic with the French territories. The general cargo quays are operated by the statutory Nigerian Ports of Authority. Three new deep-water berths are being built and should be finished by 1961." [Elisofon field notes, August 1959-December 1959]
This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from August 18, 1959 to December 20, 1959.
