African Timber & Plywood Limited fells timber within about a 300-mile radius around Sapele, bringing the logs as much of the way as possible by water. Looking downstream on Ethiope River with ATP plant and the ship ONITSHA (elder Dempster Lines) being loaded in distance along the ATP quay. It's taking on plywood and lumber. Men in canoes are ATP employes who have been working on log rafts. Logs at right are Obeche, Agba, Iroko, and two types of mahogany." [Elisofon field notes, August 1959-December 1959]
