Scope and Contents
"At a farewell gathering for Michael Crowder in September 1963 at the Mbari Mbayo Club in Oshogbo, Nigeria, a young man crashed the party. Few knew him, but the eyes of everyone turned toward him when he began to dance. His somewhat garish costume and his innovative dance movements caught the eyes of Ulli Beier, who was hosting the party. The young man introduced himself as Twins Seven Seven. Thus began a relationship that would bring Twins national and international attention. It also marked Twins's introduction to the "Oshogbo Artists." [Pemberton j., 2002: Ulli Beier and the Oshogbo Artists of Nigeria, African Studies Review, Volume 45, Number 1, pp.115-124]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon traveled to Africa from March 17, 1970 to July 17, 1970.
