Scope and Contents
"Ibadan itself, with its multidinous markets, is of course exceptional; quite aside from the many morning, day, and night markets, it also has two periodic markets, one of which still bears traces of its rural origin. Both are held at 8-day intervals; they take place on successive days, so that Ibuko market always immediately follows Oje market day. But whereas Ibuko remains primarly a wholesale collecting point for foodstuffs, Oje market is nowadays very much a specialized market for indigenous cloth." [Krapf-Askari E., 1969: Yoruba Towns and Cities. Clarendon Press, Oxford]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon traveled to Africa from March 17, 1970 to July 17, 1970.
