Scope and Contents
"Musina (previously called Messina) is the northernmost city in the Limpopo Province of South Africa near the Limpopo River border with Zimbabwe. South Africa's Limpopo is well-known for the legendary Baobab trees that grow chiefly in semi-arid locations particularly in the Venda region near the Soutpansberg mountain range. The Baobab tree (Adansonia digitata) has one of the longest life spans of Africa's trees with some between 300 and 500 years." This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from January 8, 1947 to end of June 1947.
