Scope and Contents
"At the very rear of the complex beyond the second court was the royal apartment with a terrace as an approach from the court to a hypostyle hall. Within the apartment is a shallow transverse hall connected to two lateral corridors ending with an observation window and a throne room with lateral groups of rooms, among which can be recognized a bathroom and a bedroom, with an alcove at the south end." [Badawi A., 1968: A History of Egyptian Architecture. University of California Press]. "Amarna was a short-lived city of upper Egypt; capital of King Akhenaton. It was built ca. 1375 BCE, but abandoned soon after when court was forced to return to Thebes." [The J.P.Getty Fund: Thesaurus of Geographic Names]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was working on "The Nile" project and traveled to Africa from March 14, 1961 to March 31, 1961, visiting Egypt.
