Scope and Contents
"The temple house of Ptolemy VI Philometor was embellished by a magnificent proanos of 12 m high columns arranged in rows of three-by-five. The column bases have heavily chamfered edges and stand on square plinths raised slightly above the pavement. The selection of capital types also uses two New Kingdom forms, the palm column and the Ramesside bell-shaped papyrus capital on a planed-out shaft. The distribution of capital types aspires to symmetry." [Arnold D., 1999: Temples of the Last Pharaohs. Oxford University Press]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was working on "The Nile" project and traveled to Africa from March 14, 1961 to March 31, 1961, visiting Egypt.
