Scope and Contents

"The large hypostyle hall was added in the 1st century AD by the emperor Tiberius. Unlike those of earlier temples, the facade of this hypostyle is constructed as a low screen with intercolumnar walls exposing the hall's ceiling and the Hathor-featured sistrum-capitals of its 24 columns." [Wilkinson R., 2000: The Complete Temples of Ancient Egypt. Thames and Hudson]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from January 8, 1947 to end of June 1947.
