Scope and Contents

"When Ptolemy XII died in 51 B.C., the temple was still in its early stages. The main temple house was built during the twenty-one-year reign of his successor, Queen Cleopatra VII. At the time of her death in 30 B.C., the decoration work had just begun, covering the outer rear wall with a huge scene showing the queen cleopatra VII Philopator and her son Caesarion performing the Hathor ritual." [Arnold D., 1999: Temples of the Last Pharaohs. Oxford University Press]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for American Institute of Architects, directing the Egyptian portion of the documentary on Ancient Egypt, March 1965 and September 1965.
