Scope and Contents

The photograph depicts hollow relief scene of Ramses II smiting his Libyan captives. He wears the Double Crown and brandishes a mace. Visible below the feet of the king are his daughters holding sistra-bronze rattles decorated with the face of the goddess Hathor. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from January 8, 1947 to end of June 1947.
