Scope and Contents
"Fort St. Jago (previously known as Fort Coenraadsburg) was built by the Dutch in the seventeenth century and commands a view of much of the town. Twentieth-century renovations have roofed the bastions and reduced the height of the tower." [DeCorse Ch., 2001: An Archaeology of Elmina. Smithsonian Institution Press]. During his trip to Ghana, Elisofon visited Cape coast, Accra, Besease, the Kumasi area, and Elmina. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon traveled to Africa from March 17, 1970 to July 17, 1970.
