Scope and Contents

The photograph depicts the southern extremity of Zamālik, Jazīrat az Island (Gezirah Island) with Tahrir (Liberation) Bridge and 590-foot-high Cairo Tower. The edifice was built in 1957 and is surmounted by a revolving restaurant and a radio and television mast. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was working on "The Nile" project and traveled to Africa from March 14, 1961 to March 31, 1961, visiting Egypt.
