Scope and Contents
The photograph depicts house units for workers at Sir Steward Gore Browne's 33,000 acre citrus farm. During his trip to Nothern Rhodesia (now Zambia), Elisofon visited Shiwa Ngandu (also called Shiwa Ngandu), a grand English country house estate, the life-long project of an English aristocrat, Sir Stewart Gore-Browne. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from January 8, 1947 to end of June 1947.
