Scope and Contents
"Five separate railway systems operate in Zaire. The longest, The Chemin de Fer Kinshasa-Dilolo-Lubumbashi (KDL), connects the mining area of southern Shaba Region (now Katanga) to the port of Ilebo on the Kasai River and ultimately to Kinshasa by the Kasai and Zaire River. Since 1931, the KDL system is also connected to the Benguela Railway which goes through Angola." [F. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignement for National Geographic Film and traveled to Africa from January 19, 1972 to mid April 1972.
