Scope and Contents
"Lake Nokwe provides favourable conditions for fish life, particularly along the north shore. The biological conditions are ideal for fish-breeding and the Toffinou have developed their own ingenious and sophisticated method. The total area of water is 15,000 hectares and only 500 hectares are accounted for by the akadja method of fish-farming. The remaining open waters are fished by other techniques." [Danby M., 1971: Shelter in Africa, pg 36-45. New York: Praeger]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Westinghouse Film and traveled to Africa from October 26, 1970 to end of March 1971.
