Scope and Contents
"The Aswan Dam power station was equipped with turbines calculated to double the country's electricity production. Until 1986 it remained the city of Aswan's only source of power. Not only did the Aswan Dam prove inadequate to meet the growing electrical needs of the country, it also failed to solve the age-old problem of flood control." This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for American Institute of Architects, directing the Egyptian portion of the documentary on Ancient Egypt, March 1965 and September 1965.
