Scope and Contents

The photograph depicts first class of the Ecole de Formation d'Officiers with their Belgian officers and NCO's (faculty), under ceramic mural, commemorating the WWI Battle of Tabora. During his trip to Congo (now Democratic Republic of Congo), Elisofon visited the military training center at Kananga, capital of Kasai Occidental Province. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon traveled to Africa from March 17, 1970 to July 17, 1970.

Local Note

Typed index card reads, "O 3 Zai. Zaire. Kananga. First class of the Ecole Formation d'Officiers Belgian officers and NCO's (faculty) under ceramic mural, WWI Battle of Tabora. 5/1970. EE. neg.no. I-43, 5." The card was written in 1977-79 by Archives staff using source provided by photographer.
