The photograph depicts children playing near Rosetta which is located in the new Liberation Province of the western Delta region. This province was carved out of the desert by water from the Rosetta branch (Rashid, Far`, now) of the Nile as part of a land reclamation scheme under the Nasser government's agrarian reform program." This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was working on "The Nile" project and traveled to Africa from March 14, 1961 to March 31, 1961, visiting Egypt.
