Scope and Contents

The photograph depicts a young man working in field using short-handled hoe. Some of the agricultural tasks, such as hoeing are done by both sexes, but heavier work such as clearing field and bush are performed by men. During his trip to Mali, Elisofon visited the village of Bougouni, in the Bamana region. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon traveled to Africa from March 17, 1970 to July 17,1970.
