Scope and Contents
"The mask Ngady Amwaash represents Mweel, the sister of Woot, and dances with the Moshambwooy mask that this mythical hero symbolizes. There are no perforated eye-holes and thus the mask must be worn somewhat back on the head. The paralllel lines running under the eyes represent tears, byoosh'dy. The costume ressembles that of the Moshambwooy mask. There are, however, some added female attributes." [Cornet J., 1993: Masks Among the Kuba Peoples, Face of the Spirits]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Westinghouse Film and traveled to Africa from October 26, 1970 to end of March 1971.
