Scope and Contents

The dog is used for hunting, either for ndacha (individual hunt for the Nupe) in the day time and ndachezhi (group hunt) in the dry season. Dogs are used for locating, tracking, bringing to bay or even killing; they are also important for hunting very large animals. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from August 18, 1959 to December 20, 1959.
