Original caption reads, "Alexandra Ragtime Boys playing their swinging music at corner of Von Brandis and Pritchard streets in Johannesburg, with a crowd of blacks, whites and colored listening. Group of seven men includes two guitar players, a racking case base player, singers and dancers. Leader is boy in green sweater, Leslie Modupi, 16, who plays guitar. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from August 18, 1959 to December 20, 1959.
