"She wears the guhota sanga hairstyle, with hundreds of light, rolled braids encircling the head, topped by a long inverted raffia cone (mukombe). This hairstyle is appreciated because it quivers with the slightest motion and enhances the movements of the head." [Strother Z. S., 2008: Pende. Visions of Africa. 5 Continents Editions, Milan.] This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon traveled to Africa from early March 1951 to July 1951.
