"A herder driving his flock of sheep southward toward Omdurman, where they will be slaughtered for the market. The stretch of land here, unnurtured by the Nile, is extremely desolate and barren, with only a few acacia trees for shade." [Elisofon E., Van Der Post L., 1964: The Nile, The Viking Press]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from January 8, 1947 to end of June 1947.
