Scope and Contents
This series consists of correspondence, meeting notes, and reports associated with Ralph Rinzler's membership and participation in a variety of local, national, and international organizations. The files are arranged in four subseries groups as follows:
1. General Meetings and Organizations
2. American Folklife Center
3. Highlander Research and Education Center
4. UNESCO
General Meetings and Organizations includes clippings, correspondence, meeting minutes, notes, and reports from Ralph Rinzler's participation in variety of organizations and institutions – ranging in scope from event planning to long-term engagement. Subjects with extensive materials in this subseries include the American Folklore Society, the Division of Performing Arts, and the National Commission on Music Education.
American Folklife Center includes agendas, collected texts, correspondence, meeting minutes, notes, and reports from Ralph Rinzler's involvement with the center at the Library of Congress. The materials in this subseries are predominantly from 1976-1982.
Highlander Research and Education Center includes agendas, collected texts, correspondence, meeting minutes, notes, and reports from Ralph Rinzler's involvement with the institution. The materials in this subseries are predominantly from the proceedings of the meetings of the board of directors, with a notable inclusion of correspondence about the Highlander Center's nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
UNESCO includes agendas, collected texts, correspondence, meeting minutes and summaries, notes, and reports from Ralph Rinzler's involvement with the organization, including his time as Vice Chairman for the U.S. National Committee for UNESCO from 1980-1981. The materials in this subseries are predominantly from 1976-1980.
