General

CDR copy This tape were recorded (poorly) on different occasions, but primarily at a square dance in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, on July 1, 1953. The square dance performers are the Rambling Hoedowners, including callers, a fiddler, a banjo (or ukelele) player, cloggers, and bass player. The occasion is informal and there are conversational interludes, including both English and Pennsylvania Dutch. None of the individual personnel are identified. These two tapes might have been reversed relative to their tape boxes, but both are primarily square dancing as described above. FW-ASCH-5RR-2622 also includes Moses Asch interviewing a young Hispanic boy selling and playing castanets, in Louisiana; also included is a cricket, without any comment on the circumstances.
