General

CDR copy FW-ASCH-5RR-2617 contains children's songs (although some might be considered to be more for adults than children) sung by Hermes Nye, who recorded several albums for Folkways. (This particular recording and the concept, however, weren't used by Folkways.) Almost all the songs were obtained by Nye from major folk music collections, which Nye announces, along with page number, prior to singing each song. The song collections include the Seeger American Folk Songs for Children, Carl Sandburg's American Songbag, Folk Song U.S.A. of John and Alan Lomax, etc. The tape, dated 7/8/1957, was recorded very informally, with interruptions when he makes a mistake and occasional comments. See other sheets for list of songs and durations.
