Scope and Contents note

Louise T. Jackson, a resident of the Anacostia neighborhood, recalls the inception of the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum (now Anacostia Community Museum), the early exhibits, and the impact it had on the neighborhood. As a museum docent, she worked closely with the museum's leadership over time. She describes the many groups and activities she became involved with, the influence the museum had on her children, and how the museum has changed over time. The interview was conducted by Erin Miller on November 12, 1991. The audio quality is clear throughout the recording. Exhibitions mentioned: The Real McCoy: Afro-American invention and innovation, 1619-1930, Climbing Jacob's Ladder: the rise of Black churches in Eastern American cities, 1740 - 1877.
