Lillian Smith, a resident of the Anacostia neighborhood, recalls the opening of the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum (now Anacostia Community Museum), its impact and presence in the community, and the effect it had on the neighborhood youth. She discusses how the social and political environment in the 1960s and 1970s affected neighborhood residents, and the important role the museum played as an exhibition space, and community center. She also describes the effect of the relocation from the Carver Theater to the current location near Fort Stanton, and how the Anacostia neighborhood has changed over time.  The interview was conducted on July 24, 1991. The audio quality is clear throughout the recording.
