Scope and Contents note

Frederick Saunders, a former Roving Leader for the Washington DC Parks and Recreation Department in the Anacostia Neighborhood, discusses the conception and early development of the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum (now Anacostia Community Museum). He details the City Council members, and neighborhood leaders involved in the museum's formation, and the impact it had on the residents, neighborhood youth, and surrounding businesses. He recalls the hiring and tremendous impact of the museum's first director, John Kinard. He describes how the museum has evolved over time, and through the transition from the original site to the current location. The interview was conducted by Helene Fisher on July 5, 1991. The audio quality is clear throughout the recording.
