The building in the distance is the Old First Church. In left center is a monument on the site of the former Catamount Tavern. The tavern served as headquarters for Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys, as well as headquarters for General John Stark, commander of American forces at the Battle of Bennington (16 August 1777).
