General

Designed by Lois W. Poinier, this garden features a two-level terrace on a hillside facing northeast. Three of the associated images are of the terrace prior to construction of an eighteen-inch high brick wall and the addition of flowering shrubs. The remaining three images, taken in spring, show the Glenn Dale white hybrid azalea 'Swansong', the Delaware Valley White Azalea, and Rhododendron periclymenoides (Pinxter azalea), as well as other plantings. The Pinxter azaleas were brought from their native woods to the site, where they flourished in the sunny conditions. This may have been the home of Thomas Wheeler Dewart, whose parents, William and Mary Dewart, purchased "Beausite" farm estate in 1931. The farm buildings and part of its stone walls may be seen in image CT298002.
Persons associated with the garden include: Lois W. Poinier (garden designer) and the Dewart family.
