General
This garden was designed by Lois W. Poinier in the early 1960s around the terrace of the 1941 house. The terrace was surrounded by a low brick wall. The inside of the wall was planted with roses and the outside of the wall with tulips in the spring and then annuals once the tulips faded. Stairs leading from the terrace to the flower beds framed with railroad ties were planted with peonies and a mixture of annuals and perennials.
Persons associated with the garden include: The Hulshizer Family (former owner, 1941-1955), James H. McGraw III (former owner, 1955-1977), Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Palmer (former owners, 1977-1986), Margaret Cannella and Conor D. Reilly (former owners, 1986-2013), and Lois W. Poinier (garden designer, 1960s).
