General

This project involved extensive work at the rear and side of the house. At the back a porch was demolished and replaced with a terrace. A garden pool accented by azaleas was placed in what had been a wide lawn while leaving sufficient open space for children to play. Additional azaleas, spring bulbs, and other plantings were added to the edge of the lawn area. A formal rose and herb garden with gravel paths, surrounded by a picket fence, was designed for one side of the house near the terrace. Images include before and after shots, the latter highlighting the property in spring when the flowering shrubs and trees were in full bloom.
Persons associated with the garden include: Celeste and John Stevens Penney, Jr. (former owners, 1961-ca. 1989) and Lois W. Poinier (garden designer, ca. 1962).
