General note
Breeze Hill gardens consisted of an old clapboard Victorian house and two and one half acre plot that surrounded it. The gardens began in 1909 near an abandoned vineyard, just about a mile from the Mount Pleasant Press. The property was a showcase garden that had several rose gardens, peony garden, lily pool and borders of shrubs (lilacs, mock oranges, etc.) The garden became a laboratory for J. Horace McFarland. Over 350 species and varieties of plants were under observation. The gardens built on this two and a half acreas are gone.
