General
Established in 1937, the garden encompasses 3/4 acres. Enclosed within twenty foot high stone walls, this formal garden features dramatic architectural points of interest including a skyward spouting fountain, a wishing well, a waterfall, large metal lanterns and statuary. There are four different types of stone used in the walls surrounding the garden: Kentucky blue slate, Indiana limestone, fieldstone and Kentucky blue slae for the terracing walls.
Persons and firms associated with the garden include: Dudley Gallahue (former owner, 1935-1964); Butler University (former owner, 1964-1973); William M. Kendrick, Jr. (former owner, 1973-1975); and Terri Symons (gardener, 2003-present).
