El Pomar was the residence of Spencer and Julie Penrose who built the Broadmoor Hotel and Resort just 3 blocks away. After Spencer died, Julie gave the home to the Catholic Sisters of Charity. It was used as a retreat house for women until it was purchased by the El Pomar Foundation. This Foundation administers the Penrose estate and has restored the house and gardens. the Pe
