General

Paradise Revisited is on a 1.25-acre property at the base of Mummy Mountain in Paradise Valley. Its location is a secluded area with desert views set off by the backdrop of distant mountains. The prior owners had leveled the sloping yard for a tennis court. In 2002, the current owners began a two-year transformation of the property, building a similar ranch home and using the sloping yard to create multiple terraces and outdoor rooms. The herb and vegetable garden benefits from being dug into the existing slope, which keeps temperatures cooler. The U shape of the garden allows for a small seating area that creates a secluded spot. The swimming pool's shape leads the eye to Camelback Mountain. A hidden passageway flanked by raised rose beds leads to a potting bench at the base of the pool terrace. Layers of desert plants, flower and vegetable gardens, trees, and hardscape were added. A towering Carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua L.) was incorporated into the new design, and the tree mandated where the first of many terraces would be. Bowered by the branches of a mesquite tree and carved out of gravel and stone, the property's nature walk includes benches for relaxing and conversations. It begins with a fire pit lounge area and ambles around the base of the hill, which opens to views of Camelback Mountain. In the past 20 years, the landscape has matured and now includes 98 trees. A range of outdoor spaces were created for gathering places, from large to intimate. Multiple seating and dining areas allow enjoyment from all levels, including a ramada with a dining table and pizza oven, an outdoor living room and a secluded sunset patio and spa. Artwork is featured throughout the property, and significant pieces by acclaimed sculptors including John Henry Waddell, Gary Slater and Larry C. Shank are featured. To date, 15 sculptures and pieces of art accentuate both the streetside yard and the expansive vistas in the back.
