General
When Mr. Hagel bought the property in 1971, the property consisted of a tangle of second growth trees and vines with a lot of weeds in front of the house. Hagel established a collection of woody plant specimens and perennials. In 1987, he met Mike Donnally, who started designing a planned garden. It is a year-around garden with trees with interesting shapes when they are dormant.
Persons associated with the property and garden include: Raymond C. Hagel (former owner, 1971-2003); and Mike Donnally (landscape designer, 1988-2003).
