General

This garden included 15 acres of meadowland surrounded by trees, and was essentially a small, private arboretum. Its former owners, Carol and David Mackie, concentrated on rare shrubs and flowering trees, including fruit trees. Plant specimens were planted in islands, grouped for color and interest, and included a gray-foliaged group with the Russian olive tree and the rosemary willow. A redwood lathhouse was constructed to shelter shade-loving seedlings. Carol Mackie was a well-known horticulturist who discovered a new Daphne on her property, which was named for her, Daphne 'Carol Mackie'.
Persons associated with the garden include David Ives and Carol Mackie (former owners, before 1998).
