General
This garden was designed by landscape architect Alice Recknagel Ireys and incorporated plants, such as a mature Styrax japonica, moved from the client's former home. Ireys's design took advantage of existing trees on the site, but also included new plantings such as ground covers and flowering trees, especially at the front and sides of the house. A stone-walled terrace at the back of the house took advantage of the natural slope of the property. Its base provided the setting for the Styrax japonica, which was underplanted with roses.
