Arrangement note
Stock books and miscellaneous stock records are followed by inventory cards and purchase slips. The arrangement of the stock volumes varies: some are categorized by type of art (e.g., American folk art), others are in alphabetical order by name of artist, and yet others are keyed to the storage location of the objects. Inventory cards are mostly organized by type of artwork and arranged by stock number. Purchase slips for each year are arranged alphabetically by name of seller.
Collection Rights
Prior to publishing information regarding sales transactions, researchers are responsible for obtaining written permission from both artist and purchaser involved. If it cannot be established after a reasonable search whether an artist or purchaser is living, it can be assumed that the information may be published 60 years after the date of the sales transaction. Contact Reference Services for more information.
